Knicks Extend Offer to Shannon Brown

Jul 29, 2010 - 4:01 PM - by StumptheSlob
StumptheSlob's Avatar The Knicks have extended an offer to Shannon Brown and are waiting to hear whether the Lakers' free-agent guard will take it or wait for L.A. to make room to re-sign him by trading Sasha Vujacic, two people with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com Thursday.

Brown, 24, played all 82 games for the champion Lakers last season and is weighing whether to join Ray Felton in the Knicks' revamped backcourt or give the Lakers time to clear the room needed to re-sign him. The Lakers didn't give all of their mid-level exception to point guard Steve Blake, so some of it is left for Brown. But that's not really the issue. The Lakers, as usual, are well into the luxury tax. So moving Vujacic's $5.4 million salary for next season would ease the tax hit associated with keeping Brown.

Brown's electrifying transition game would be a huge asset in coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo system, and Brown would have a good chance of winning a starting job after starting only seven games for the Lakers last season.

Meanwhile, the Knicks continue to explore trade possibilities and remain interested in Blazers swingman Rudy

Frolov & Avery to appear on "Knicks Night Live" - Thu. 7/29 8:00PM MSG

Jul 29, 2010 - 3:15 PM - by Dadude2399
Dadude2399's Avatar Per the Rangers website:

Rangers fans won't have to wait long to see new Blueshirts forward Alexander Frolov on the MSG airwaves.

Frolov, who signed with the Blueshirts as an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, will join Rangers teammate Sean Avery on Thursday night's broadcast of "Knicks Night Live", hosted by MSG's Al Trautwig.

The two Rangers forwards, who were also teammates in Los Angeles from 2003 to 2007, won't be talking too much basketball with the "Knicks Night Live" panel. Instead, the hockey stars are expected to discuss Frolov's joining the team, the adjustment athletes must make when relocating to New York from other cities, and what it's like to play in the nation's biggest local market.

The show airs from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a re-broadcast beginning at 10 p.m.

Marbury will be taking his services to....China

Jul 29, 2010 - 1:16 PM - by nycballer
nycballer's Avatar Stephon Marbury is keeping his talents in China after signing for an additional three years with Shanxi Zhongyu.
The team's owner has agreed to start a company to produce and sell Marbury's line of athletic apparel and shoes, the team said Thursday. Marbury was a fan favorite last year in China, behaving like a model citizen. You have to wonder if his run with the Knicks would have ended on a better note if he and Isiah Thomas wouldn't have worked together.

Gallinari & Chandler - the Knicks 2 & 3 punch?

Jul 29, 2010 - 10:02 AM - by nycballer
nycballer's Avatar (Big C) Over the last couple of weeks we have devoted a lot of time to the new players on the Knicks team. We can’t overlook that the excitement for the upcoming season includes the anticipation of the two returning players, Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari. Both players will be key pieces in the starting lineup to help take the load off new members Raymond Felton and Amar’e Stoudemire.

Last year we saw both players contribute to the Knicks with their ability to score and deliver on the defensive end of the court. Last season you would have been hard pressed to find a press conference with Mike D’Antoni not mentioning Danilo Gallinari or Wilson Chandler. So now in the off-season we have heard good things about Danilo Gallinari as well as Wilson Chandler.

Wilson Chandler has not missed a beat. When the Knicks season was over he was working on getting his strength back to game level after his season ending injury. During Chandler’s summer league interview he looked bigger than ever. And according to people that saw Chandler in Vegas he looked built like a tank.

Besides hitting the weight room to get... [Read More]
