| Warriors' Ellis would be interested in Knicks BY ALAN HAHN | alan.hahn@newsday.com 11:57 PM EDT, July 3, 2008 While the Knicks continue to wait for Chris Duhon to accept or reject their offer, another interesting scenario is beginning to surface involving Monta Ellis, the dynamic young guard for the Golden State Warriors. Ellis, 22, a restricted free agent, is starting to draw a great deal of attention in several sign-and-trade scenarios. A person with knowledge of the situation said nine teams have made inquiries about Ellis. The Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers have shown the most interest. The Knicks, who are searching for point guard help, are not one of those teams, but a second source said the Knicks have been monitoring the situation. Warriors executive vice president Chris .Mullin has maintained he .intends to sign Ellis. Knicks president Donnie Walsh and Mullin are close, so Walsh won't act unless Mullin is ready to deal. The source said the potential of an Ellis- Jamal Crawford backcourt "would be dynamic" in the Mike D'Antoni system. Both players averaged 20 points per game this past .season. A person close to Ellis said the lightning-quick guard "would be very interested in the Knicks" and especially playing for D'Antoni. Ellis' agent, Jeff Fried, would not comment on the interest in his client from other NBA teams and said talks with the Warriors are ongoing. "We are continuing discussions," Fried replied in an e-mail. SOURCE: NEWSDAY |

| So the question quickly becomes this. Would it be worth losing a shot at LeBron to get Ellis in NYC? On the other hand, could Ellis be the superstar that this team NEEDS to move on to the next level? What would it take to land him, and could NY use David Lee and Malik's expiring contract to get a resigned Ellis??? Lot's of questions, few answers. My money says that Ellis doesn't end up a Knick because NY is committed firmly to cap flexibility in 2010. Now, if we can off one of our three year contracts in the process, I think NY would move forward. If they would take Zach and deal Ellis and a two year contract, NY could cut salary and still add a player? Would Golden State deal Al Harrington and a resigned Ellis for Eddy Curry, Nate Robinson and Malik's contract??? Personally, I like Harrington as a SF. He is a shooter. Imagine NY starting Ellis, Crawford, Harrington, Gallinari and Jeffries...... That is a squad that can spread the floor OUT big time. The shooters would give Ellis the lane and 1:1 all day long, or it would create wide open 3's for Crawford, Harrington and Gallinari..... |

| Unless he is talking about leaving and getting nothing back. People said the same thing about Crawford, and he managed to leave. You are probably correct, but it also can come down to a player wanting to leave and a team trying to force him to stay, which never turns out good for ANYONE, especially the team. |

| lol, I don't think anyone was saying this about Crawford...And Monta can't leave for nothing, he's restricted. I like him, but I don't know if he's the guy we need...again, him (and ben Gordon for that matter) seem to be exactly like a guy we totally ignored (Jerryd Bayless). Unless, there were other reasons so many people passed on Bayless.

| Only because he never understood what playing like a team meant. Marbury only played one yr of college ball, Randolp one yr of college ball , Curry staright out of Highschool. Nobody wants these guys !
